2 Hobart harriers named Liberty League All-Academic

November 9, 2005

Eric Barnes

Joe Bochynski

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two runners on the Hobart College cross country team earned a place on the Liberty League All-Academic Team this season. Senior Eric Barnes (Schalmont/Duanesburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Joe Bochynski (Amherst/Amherst, N.Y.) represented the Statesmen based on their academic and athletic excellence.

Barnes crossed the finish line first for Hobart in all five races he has participated in this season. At the Oswego Invitational, Barnes covered the 8-kilometer course in a season’s best time of 29:46.81. The Statesmen captain is majoring in history.

With Barnes missing the past four races due to injury, Bochynski has stepped into his leadership role. At the Saratoga Invitational, he turned in his fastest 8k of the season, 30:14.40, clipping 1:34 off his previous result. One week later, he lowered that mark by six seconds in the inaugural CCOC Championships.

Student-athletes from the Liberty League earn a place on the team based on the following criteria: at least a sophomore academic standing and a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

Hobart will run in the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 12 at noon at the University of Rochester.
