Clarkson men, Buff State women win Hobart XC Invite

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart cross country team hosted its annual invitational today. Clarkson University won the men’s team title, while Buffalo State eked past the Golden Knights in the women’s title chase.
Clarkson senior Sam Morse (Camden/Camden, N.Y.) won the men’s individual title, covering the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 42 seconds. He was 21 seconds ahead of his teammate Ken Crawford (St. Joe’s/Buffalo, N.Y.), who finished second overall.
Hobart senior Eric Barnes (Schalmont/Duanesburg, N.Y.) was the first Statesmen across the finish line, placing 17th in the 54-runner field in a time of 30:50. Hobart finished seventh out of eight teams.
In the women’s race, Bengal senior Aleksandra Halter (Clarence/Clarence, N.Y.) and first-year Margaret Hughes (Elmira Academy/Elmira, N.Y.) finished one-two to lead Buffalo State to the women’s crown, four points better than Clarkson. Halter finished 40 seconds ahead of Hughes, covering the 6-kilometer course in 23:44.
William Smith junior Leanne Roncolato (Meadville/Meadville, Pa.) placed third overall with a time of 24:36. Classmate Jenn Strong (Honeoye/Honeoye, N.Y.) also placed in the top-10 for the Herons, finishing seventh with a time of 25:28. William Smith finished third out of seven teams.
The Hobart and William Smith cross country teams are back in action on Sept. 24, when they travel to St. Lawrence for the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational.
