Thoms finishes 14th at Saratoga Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Hobart College senior Scott Thoms continued his strong running this past weekend with a 14th place finish of 143 runners at the Saratoga Cross Country Invitational. The Statesmen finished 11th of 13 teams, while RIT captured the title with a low score of 42.
Thoms covered the 8k course in 27:11 to earn a top-15 finish for the third consecutive week. Posting his second fastest time of the year, he edged out Kevin Smith of RIT by just one second.
Coming across the line next for the Hobart harriers was sophomore Mike Guglielmo with a time of 29:44, his second fastest time of the year. Junior Eric Barnes turned in his strongest performance of the season, eclipsing his personal best by 1:04, completing the five miles in 31:21.
First-years Joe Bochynski and Nicholas Baranco rounded out the Statesmen’s group with times of 32:01 and 32:31, respectively. Baranco dropped 46 seconds from his previous personal best at the Pat Peterson Invitational.
Hobart returns to Geneva on Oct. 30, to run in the Heron Invitational. The Statesmen’s race is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m.
