Thoms second at Hobart Invitational

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College senior Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) turned a career-best time of 27:54 to earn the runner-up spot at the annual Hobart Cross Country Invitational and lead the Statesmen to a fifth place finish of eight teams. Clarkson captured the team title with a low score of 29, led by the first-place finish of junior Sam Morse (Camden/Camden, N.Y.).

Running in windy conditions, sophomore Mike Guglielmo (Northern Highlands Regional/Allendale, N.J.) crossed the line next for the Statesmen, covering the 8k course in season-best 30:57 for 20th place. First-year Joseph Bochynski (Amherst Central/Amherst, N.Y.) finished the morning with a time of 32:20 for 30th place, while rookie Jeff Brauer (George School/Princeton, N.J.) touched the tape in 32:39.

Rounding out the top five for Hobart was first-year Nicholas Baranco (St. Andrews-Sewanee School/Sewanee, Tenn.) with a time of 34:19.

The Statesmen will run again on Sept. 25, traveling to the St. Lawrence Invitational, at 11 a.m.
