GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart cross country team recently was honored for its academic excellence by the NCAA Division III Cross Country Coaches Association. The Statesmen were one of 69 programs named All-Academic Teams.
Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Ron Fleury, the Hobart cross country team posted a 3.09 team grade point average during the fall semester. Led by second-team All-Liberty League runner Scott Thoms ’05 (Brooks School/W. Chatham, Mass.), the Statesmen finished sixth in the conference championship meet. Both Thoms and junior Eric Barnes (Schalmont/Duanesburg, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Liberty League All-Academic team by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Among Liberty League teams, only St. Lawrence University sported a higher GPA.
Hobart, which returns six letterwinners, opens the 2005 campaign on Sept. 3, in the Dan Walker Invitational at Buffalo State College. For the Statesmen’s complete schedule, log onto web.hws.edu/statesmen/xcountry/schedule.asp.
