November 9, 2002 WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS. The Hobart College cross country team had a strong showing this past weekend at the ECAC Championships hosted by Williams College. The Statesmen took 28th place of 42 teams, with Colby College garnering the title. Sophomore Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) was the first to cross the line for Hobart, finishing the 8k run in 29:58 for 117th place of 248 runners. Junior Robert Portik-Middleton (Singapore American School/Vero Beach, Fla.) and Gauthier Giacomoni (Commack/Commack, N.Y.) joined Thoms in the top half with times of 30:18 and 30:44, respectively. Sophomore Drew Mosher (Harrisville/Harrisville, N.Y.) ran a quality race, finishing the day with a time of 31:30. First-year Sean Pelnick (Sachem/Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore Max Zimmerley (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) rounded out the Statesmens five runners, completing the 8k course with the respective times of 35:01 and 41:32. Hobart will compete in the NCAA Regional Championships on Nov. 16, at the College of New Jersey. The race is slated to begin at 11 a.m. |
