November 2, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.The Hobart College returned home to compete in the annual Heron Invitational this weekend. Running in cold and wet conditions, the Statesmen finished the day in second place out of four teams. The Clarkson harriers garnered the top five spots in the 8k race for the team title. Sam Morse (Camden/Camden, N.Y.) earned the individual title, completing the course in 26:35. Leading the way for Hobart once again was Scott Thoms (Broooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) with a seventh place finish in 28:11. Junior Robert Portik-Middleton (Singapore American School/Vero Beach, Fla.) took the ninth spot for the Statesmen with a season best of 28:29. Turning in a season best time by nearly a minute, sophomore Drew Mosher (Harrisville/Harrisville, N.Y.) crossed the line in 12th running the 8k course in 29:24. Also posting their best times of 2002 were first-years Gauthier Giacomoni (Commack/Commack, N.Y.) and Sean Pelnick (Sachem/Lake Ronkonoma, N.Y.) finishing the race in 30:27 and 32:11, respectively. Sophomore Max Zimmerley rounded out the top five runners for Hobart with a time of 39:12 for the 23rd spot. The Statesmen harriers will run again on Nov. 9, at the ECAC Championships to be held in Williamstown, Mass. |
