September 21, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y. The Brockport mens and Buffalo State womens cross country team captured their respective titles at the annual Hobart Invitational. Brockports Dave Bolen took first place finishing the 8k race in 25:38.09, while Potsdams Jodie Schoppmann crossed the line first in the womens competition in 22:53.35. In the mens race, Brockport captured three out of the first four places, with Jamie McConeghy (26:04.78) and Scott Austin (26:31.37) coming in second and fourth. Buffalo State harrier, Mike Herron took third with a time of 26:11.43 and Sam Morse of Clarkson rounded out the top five finishing in 26:35.84. Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) was Hobarts top finisher completing the course in 28:03.21, while Robert Portik-Middelton (Singapore American School/Vero Beach, Fla.) followed with a season-best time of 29:14.18. Brockport finished with a score of 22 points, followed by Buffalo State (48), Clarkson (52), Hobart (121), Potsdam (139), and Keuka (179). In the womens competition, the top five finishers were represented by four different schools. Following Schoppmann, were Mary Rhoads of Clarkson (23:03.29), Brockports Sammi Adkins ( 23:43.41) and Amanda Mills (23:55.20). Rounding out the top five was William Smith harrier Molly Rider (Concord/Concord, N.H.) finishing the 6k race in 24:12.71. Jennifer Davenport (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) took 10th place for the Herons with a time of 24:40.32. Buffalo State finished the day with a score of 54 points, followed by Brockport (61), Clarkson (62), William Smith (67), Potsdam (99), and Keuka (178).
