September 10, 2002 GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. Sophomore Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) began the 2002 season on a strong note by leading the Statesmen cross country team at the Daniel Walker Memorial Invitational. Thoms was the top runner for Hobart, crossing the finish line in 30:22. Right behind Thoms was junior Robert Portik-Middleton (Singapore American School/Vero Beach, Fla.) who ran a 10k time of 30:53. Sophomore Drew Mosher (Harrisville/Harrisville, N.Y.) was next in line for Hobart completing the course in 33:28. The next two runners to finish were first-year Gauthier Giacomoni (Commack/Commack, N.Y.) and sophomore Malcolm Richardson (Gateway/Balndford, Mass.) with times of 34:25 and 35:35, respectively. First-year Sean Pelnick (Sachem/Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) completed his first collegiate race in 39:00, while sophomore Max Zimmerley (Holliston/Holliston, Mass.) rounded out the Hobart pack, finishing in 40:53. The Statesmen will travel to the Oswego State Invitational on Sept. 14, with the race beginning at 1 p.m.
