Statesmen run at Union Invitational

October 28, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Junior Robert Portik-Middleton (Singapore American School/Vero Beach, Fla.) led the Hobart College cross country team this past weekend at the Union Invitational with a time of 29:11, finishing in 66th place of 143 competitors. The Statesmen, battling the wind and cold, finished the day in 10th place out of 10 teams.

Crossing the finish line just five seconds behind Portik-Middleton was sophomore Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.), completing the 8k run in 29:16. First-year Gauthier Giacomoni (Commack/Commack, N.Y.) came in next of the Statesmen with a time of 30:36. Rounding out the Hobart group were first-year Sean Pelnick (Sachem/Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and sophomore Max Zimmerley (Holliston/Hollilston, Mass.), finishing the course in 34:06 and 34:29, respectively.

The Statesmen will compete again on Nov. 2, when William Smith hosts the Heron Invitational. The race will begin at 11:45 a.m.
