GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart Football Head Coach Mike Cragg announced today that junior defensive back Jamie Anderson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua, N.Y.), junior wide receiver Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.) and sophomore outside linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.) will serve as captains for the 2005 season. The trio was selected in a vote of the returning players.
“I think they’re a great choice, and they’ll continue to lead the Hobart football team into the future,” Cragg said. “They’ve learned from great leaders, not only from last year’s team, but also years prior.”
A two-time All-Liberty League selection, Anderson finished atop the conference in interceptions this fall with six. Named to the ECAC Northwest Football All-Stars first team, he was seventh on the team in tackles (27 solo) including two for a loss. Inserted into the starting lineup as a sophomore, Anderson immediately made his presence known in the secondary by leading the team in interceptions (5) and pass breakups (11). In the first home game of the 2003 season, Anderson picked off a career-high three passes and deflected seven others.
Also a captain for the Statesmen basketball team, Feane has been selected to the Liberty League All-Academic team for both basketball and football. As a possession receiver for the 2004 Statesman, Feane hauled in a career-high 31 receptions for 351 yards in 11 games. In the Oct. 16 showdown at King’s Point, Feane recorded his first career touchdown. As a sophomore, Feane appeared in 10 games, starting one. As the third receiver, he caught 25 passes for 265 yards.
The 2003 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Robinson earned 2004 All-Liberty League honorable mention. He led the team in sacks for the second straight season (5). A two-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, he finished the year fourth on the team in tackles (64), including seven for a loss of 39 yards. For his career he has tallied 122 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Robinson received the Abe Solomon Rookie of the Year award for his first-year accomplishments.
The Hobart football team travels to Dickinson on Sept. 10, to kick off the 2005 season. The Statesmen ended the 2004 campaign with a 9-2 mark, tying the program record for the most wins in a season set by the 1896 squad. Liberty League champions for the third consecutive season, Hobart advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to top-seeded Rowan University. The Statesmen have earned a berth in the NCAA tournament three of the previous four seasons.
