GENEVA, N.Y.—Five members of the 12th-ranked Hobart football team earned a place on the Liberty League All-Academic Team this season. Senior wide receiver Colby Feane (Weedsport/Weedsport, N.Y.), junior tight end Ryan McWalter (Concord-Carlisle/Concord, Mass.), junior linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.), senior free safety Ryan Smith (Tonawanda/Tonawanda, N.Y.), and sophomore fullback Chris Whipple (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) represent the Statesmen for their academic and athletic excellence.

Although slowed by a preseason injury, Feane is averaging 14.8 yards per reception. In a 13-9 win over St. Lawrence on Oct. 22, he caught a 31-yard touchdown that proved to be the game-winner. In 25 career games, Feane has 60 catches for 675 yards and four touchdowns. He is majoring in economics.

A versatile athlete, McWalter made a successful transition from quarterback to tight end this season. His first collegiate reception was for 24-yards to the Rensselaer 1-yard line in the third overtime, a game Hobart won in three overtimes, 56-48. McWalter is a history major.

An outside linebacker, Robinson is fourth on the team in sacks (2.5) and fifth in tackles (18-13-31). During the win over the Engineers, Robinson made a season-high seven stops. In 28 career games, he has 153 tackles, including 11 sacks. Robinson is majoring in chemistry.

An intelligent player who sees the field well, Smith is tied for third in the Liberty League in interceptions with four. Through seven games, Smith has 20 tackles, including 15 solo. Over the past four seasons, he has logged 100 career tackles (70-30) and nine interceptions. Smith is a psychology major.

A punishing blocker, Whipple has created gaping holes for the Statesmen, who boast the top rushing offense in the conference (222.0 yds/g). He has carried the ball eight times for 39 yards and has caught three passes for 13 yards and two touchdowns. Whipple is majoring in history.

Student-athletes from the Liberty League earned a place on the All-Academic team based on the following criteria: at least a sophomore academic standing and a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average.

Following an off week, Hobart returns to action on Nov. 5 at Liberty League rival Union. Kickoff at Frank Bailey Field is set for 1 p.m.
