GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart junior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) and senior defensive back Jamie Anderson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua, N.Y.) were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon for their roles in the Statesmen’s 24-7 win over WPI on Saturday. Blakowski was named the Offensive Performer of the Week, while Anderson earned the Special Teams Performer of the Week Award.
Facing the Liberty League’s top rushing defense, Blakowski gained 172 yards and two touchdowns to lead the ground game at WPI. The Engineers came into the contest allowing just 59.3 rushing yards per game, but Blakowski alone nearly tripled that number as the Statesmen picked up 233 yards on the ground as a team. Blakowski averaged 7.5 yards per carry. He has five carries this season that have gone for 25 yards or more, including three touchdown runs of 50 yards or more.
In his first season as a starter, Blakowski leads the Liberty League in yards per carry (6.2), is second in scoring (13.5 ppg), and third in rushing (138.8 yds/g).
Anderson padded his league-leading punt return average with five returns for 83 yards against the Engineers in a matchup of undefeated teams. He averaged 16.6 yards per punt return, including a season-long 25-yarder. Anderson is averaging 12.2 yards per punt return this season. He also recorded a third quarter interception that set up a Hobart touchdown and two solo tackles against WPI.
The 19th-ranked Statesmen (4-0, 2-0 Liberty) return to action at noon on Oct. 8, when Hobart takes on Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.
