Football dispatches Rochester 42-25

ROCHESTER, N.Y.—Junior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) ran 74 yards for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage to spur 25th-ranked Hobart to a 42-25 victory over Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium today. The Statesmen had three scoring plays of 52 yards or longer and turned two Yellowjacket turnovers into touchdowns.
Hobart finished the regular season at 8-1 overall (6-1 Liberty League) for the second consecutive season and the third time in the past four seasons. The win keeps the Statesmen’s hopes alive for an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs. The 32-team field will be announced at approximately 1 p.m. on Nov. 13 on ESPNews.
Rochester finished at 4-6 overall, 3-4 in the Liberty League.
Junior tight end Kyle Martin (Onondaga/Syracuse, N.Y.) turned a flat pass from junior quarterback Shawn Mizro (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) into a 77-yard TD in the second quarter and sophomore running back Corey Cage (Henninger/Syracuse, N.Y.) ran 52 yards for a TD with 5:43 left in the game. Hobart totaled 397 yards in offense, 245 on the ground, 152 in the air. Mizro completed 8-of-16 pass for two touchdowns.
Rochester had 343 yards in offense. The Yellowjackets rushed for 136 and passed for 207 more. Aaron Molisani was 21 of 43 and one TD. He was intercepted twice.
Hobart jumped ahead 21-0 on Blakowski’s run, the Mizro-to-Martin pass play, and a 16-yard fumble return for a touchdown by senior cornerback Jamie Anderson (Canandaigua/Canandaigua, N.Y.).
Molisani threw a seven-yard scoring pass to David Ferris to cap a 35-yard drive following a 50-yard kickoff return by Nate Gibbons. It pulled the Yellowjackets within 21-7 with 2:47 left in the half.
Mizro marched Hobart 65 yards in eight plays and finished it with a 20-yard TD pass to sophomore wide receiver Steve Sorhaindo (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) with 23 seconds left in the opening half.
In the third quarter, Hobart answered a 33-yard Rochester field goal with a 67-yard interception return for a touchdown by junior linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.) to give the Statesmen a 35-10 lead heading into the final frame.
In the final period, the Yellowjackets sandwiched rushing touchdowns around Cage’s 52-yarder.
Blakowski rushed 21 times for 158 yards to raise his season total to 1,227, fourth on Hobart’s all-time list. He also moved into second place on Hobart’s single season rushing touchdown list with his 16th of the year.
Senior linebacker Tony Clemente (Troy/Troy, N.Y.) led Hobart defensively with nine tackles.
