NEW LONDON, Conn.—Junior quarterback Shawn Mizro (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) completed 17 of 19 for 238 yards and three touchdowns, while junior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) carried 19 times for 198 yards and two touchdowns as the 17th-ranked Hobart College football team amassed 635 yards of total offense to beat Coast Guard 42-13 in a Liberty League action.

Mizro established Hobart single game records for completion percentage (89.5, minimum 15 attempts) and passing efficiency rating (246.8).

The Statesmen (5-0, 3-0 Liberty) wasted little time getting on the board as Blakowski broke off a 66-yard touchdown run on the second play from scrimmage. Hobart led 7-0 just 54 seconds into the game.

The Statesmen (5-0, 3-0) scored touchdowns on their first three possessions. Mizro threw a two-yard touchdown pass to junior fullback Chris Whipple (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.), capping a 14 play, 87-yard drive for a 14-0 lead. Hobart increased its advantage to 21-0 on a 3-yard run by first-year Anthony Hobaica (Utica-Proctor/Utica N.Y.) on the first play of the second quarter. Hobaica finished the game with 15 carries for 125 yards.

Hobart almost took a 28-0 lead, but Blakowski fumbled into and out of the end zone for a touchback with 1:20 left in the half. The Statesmen took a 21-0 lead into halftime.

Hobart had 286 yards of offense in the first half, while limiting Coast Guard to just 17 yards on 17 plays and no first downs. Blakowski had 17 carries for 118 yards before the break.

In the third quarter, Mizro threw his second touchdown pass of the game, a 48-yarder to first-year wide receiver Ryan LiDrazzah (Kent School/San Diego, Calif.) with 6:37 remaining for a 28-0 lead.

Coast Guard got on the board as David Garden threw his first career touchdown pass, a 37-yard strike to Christian George, with 5:06 left in the third stanza.

Mizro threw his third and final touchdown, a 48-yard toss to sophomore wide receiver Steve Sorhaindo (Yorktown/Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) with 2:36 left in the third quarter for a 35-7 lead. Sorhaindo finished the game with five catches for a game-high 99 yards.

With 29 seconds remaining in the third stanza, Garden (14 of 23, 152 yards, 2 TD) and George (7 catches, 93 yards, 2 TD) hooked up again, this time for a 4-yard score. The extra point was no good and Hobart led 35-13.

Blakowski closed the afternoon’s scoring with a 77-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. Blakowski has 11 rushing touchdowns this season, including seven of 20 yards or more.

Coast Guard was held to 199 yards of total offense.

Ben Leuthold led Coast Guard with a game-high 14 tackles (11 solo), while senior linebacker Tony Clemente (Troy/Troy, N.Y.) paced the Statesmen with six stops.

Hobart is back in action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 15, when the Statesmen host Kings Point on Boswell Field in another Liberty League matchup.
