GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart football players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Junior quarterback Shawn Mizro (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) was named the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, while first-year kicker Kevin Olson (Mohawk/Mohawk, N.Y.) was named the Co-Special Teams Player of the Week following a 56-48 triple overtime victory over Rensselaer.

Mizro tied his own record for touchdown passes in a game with five. He threw for 290 yards, completing 22-of-36 with just one interception for a 169.1 pass efficiency rating. He also completed a two-point conversion pass after Hobart scored in the third overtime.

Mizro’s five TD passes raised his career total to 35, moving him into second place on Hobart’s career list, passing Greg Helmer ’97 (31). Mizro is 17 touchdown passes behind the career mark established by Craig Swanson ’04. Mizro also moved up the career completions list, raising his total to 199. He passed Rob Cunningham ’88 him into fourth on that all-time list.

Olson recorded 12 points against the Engineers, tying the Hobart single game record for points by kicking. He converted all six of this PATs, to improve to 13-of-13 for his career. Olson also kicked field goals from 29 yards and 47 yards out, the latter is the second longest in Hobart history.

Olson leads the Liberty League in PAT kicking percentage, having converted all 13 of his attempts, and is second in the conference in scoring by kickers (6.3 ppg).

The Statesmen are 3-0 (1-0 Liberty) and ranked 23rd in last week’s AFCA Coaches Poll (the new poll is released every Tuesday). Hobart returns to action at 1 p.m. on Oct. 1 at WPI.
