Mizro, Olson garner Liberty League praise
October 10 , 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College football players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Junior quarterback Shawn Mizro (Newark/Newark, N.Y.) was named the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, while first-year kicker Kevin Olson (Mohawk/Mohawk, N.Y.) earned the Special Teams Performer of the Week award. Both players also won the same respective awards following the Statesmen’s 56-48 triple overtime win over RPI on Sept. 24.
On Saturday, during a 42-13 win at Coast Guard, Mizro broke the Hobart single game records for completion percentage and passing efficiency rating. He finished the day 17-of-19 (89.5%) for 238 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. His single game pass efficiency rating of 246.8 bested the previous mark by more than 12 points (234.4). Mizro threw two touchdown passes from 48 yards out and the third from 2 yards away. The Bears came into the game with the top passing defense (143.8 yds/g) and the top scoring defense (12.5 ppg) in the Liberty League.
Mizro leads the conference in passing efficiency rating (145.3). He has completed 69-of-114 passes (60.5 percent) for 845 yards and nine touchdowns this season. For his career, Mizro ranks among the top five in completions (4th, 227), passing yards (4th, 3,109), and passing touchdowns (2nd, 39).
Olson converted all six of his PATs at Coast Guard. For the season, he is a perfect 22-of-22, more than halfway to the Hobart record for consecutive PATs made (40). Olson is second in the Liberty League in scoring by a kicker (6.2 ppg) and is the only place kicker in the conference with at least 10 PAT attempts and a perfect conversion rate.
Following two games on the road, Hobart returns to Boswell Field for its next contest, when the Statesmen host Kings Point on Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
