GENEVA, N.Y.—The starting offensive line for the 14th-ranked Hobart College football team was honored with a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week. Junior tackle Mike DePersis (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.), junior guards Nino Giambrone (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.) and Brian Ohman (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.), sophomore tackle Phill Perkins (Andover/Andover, Mass.), and first-year center Mike Condon (Victor/Victor, N.Y.) were named the Web site’s top offensive line last week for their role in the Statesmen’s 42-13 win at Coast Guard on Oct. 8.
“Since the start of the season, we’ve focused on getting better every day, and I think our progression as a unit has been good,” Offensive Coordinator and line coach Kevin DeWall ’00 said. “Saturday’s game was our most complete performance this season, so I’m glad the linemen saw how the offense performs when they play well and that their efforts were recognized. If we can get some guys healthy, I expect these guys will get even better.”
Hobart rolled up 635 yards of total offense, averaging 8.8 yards per play, against the Bears. Coast Guard came into the game with the top passing defense (143.8 yds/g) and the top scoring defense (12.5 ppg) in the Liberty League, but Hobart’s o-line opened sizeable holes for the running game and provided plenty of protection for the passing game. The Statesmen had two 100-yard rushers, and gained 397 total yards on the ground, while through the air, Hobart completed 17-of-19 for 238 yards, while the line allowed just two sacks.
Following two games on the road, Hobart returns to Boswell Field for its next contest, when the Statesmen host Kings Point on Oct. 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca).
