Statesmen hire Sheehan as receivers coach
July 18 , 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College Head Football Coach Mike Cragg recently announced that Brian Sheehan will join the football staff as the receivers coach for the 2005 season.
“We are excited to have Brian join our staff here at Hobart,” Cragg said. “He’s a hard-worker and a knowledgeable coach. We think he’ll be a solid addition to our football staff.”
Sheehan joins the Statesmen following two seasons as an assistant coach at Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio. With the ’Berg, he instructed the defensive ends in 2003 and moved over to the other side of the ball to coach the wide receivers and returners in 2004. Sheehan also served as the junior varsity offensive coordinator, video coordinator, study table supervisor, and assistant strength and conditioning coach at Heidelberg. He earned a master’s degree in education from Heidelberg earlier this year.
A 2003 graduate of Marietta College, Sheehan was a three-year starter at tight end and a team captain in 2002 for the Pioneers. He finished his career with 23 receptions for 208 yards and six touchdowns. A versatile student-athlete, Sheehan also started on both sides of the ball during his senior season. At defensive end, he logged 27 tackles and a sack in 2002, finishing his career with 46 tackles. The native of Rocky River, Ohio, earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and management from Marietta in 2003.
Sheehan replaces outside linebackers coach Matt Daley ’03, who returned to his native Vermont to become a state trooper. Cragg, the team’s defensive coordinator, will work with the outside linebackers, while Receivers Coach Scott Yoder ’01 will move to the defensive side of the ball to mentor the secondary.
