It’s great to MEET a Statesman!
September 28 , 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—A new chapter in the rich history of Hobart College athletics will be written on Oct. 2, when the College will introduce its newest family member, the Hobart mascot. As part of the Colleges’ Parents Weekend football game against Worcester Polytechnic Institute, the newest Statesman will be unveiled during a special halftime ceremony.
The Hobart Student Government and the Statesmen Athletic Association have teamed up on this project, and the mascot is the creation of Street Characters of Calgary, Canada. The 7-foot tall mascot uniform will be worn by selected Hobart College students.
October 2 is also Youth Football Day at Boswell Field as the Statesmen welcome the players, cheerleaders, coaches, and families of Geneva Junior League Football. During the second half of the Hobart-WPI game, fans will have the chance to “name the mascot” with prizes being awarded for the winning entrant. The winning mascot name will be announced at the Hobart-Union football game at Boswell Field on Nov. 6.
Hobart won its Liberty League opener last weekend at Rensselaer, 54-13, to improve to 2-1 overall. The WPI Engineers and the Statesmen have never met on the gridiron before. For tickets and other information fans can call Hobart Athletics at (315) 781-3075.
