Ampuja, Robinson collect Liberty League honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart senior kicker Eric Ampuja (Brockton/Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.) earned weekly honors from the Liberty League, following the Statesmen’s 21-10 gridiron victory at St. Lawrence on Oct. 23. Ampuja was named the Co-Special Teams Performer of the Week while Robinson was named the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week.
Ampuja remained perfect on the season and extended his Hobart record streak of PATs made to 40 with three extra points in Canton. During his career, he has kicked more career PATs (112) than any two previous Statesmen combined. This marks the third time this season Ampuja has earned special teams praise from the Liberty League. He leads the conference’s kickers in scoring (6.1 ppg).
Robinson posted a team-high nine tackles, including eight solo, as the Hobart defense shut out St. Lawrence for the final 52:44. He also had a solo tackle for a loss. Robinson is tied for sixth in the league in sacks (3.0) and ranks 21st in the league in tackles (6.4/g). This is his second Defensive Performer of the Week award this season.
Sporting a 5-0 mark in conference play, the Statesmen (6-1) sit atop the Liberty League standings, a half game ahead of Union (4-0, 4-2 overall). Hobart is off this week, but returns to Boswell Field for it final two regular season games, Nov. 6, vs. Union, and Nov. 13, vs. Rochester.
