GENEVA, N.Y.—Three Hobart football players were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Senior quarterback Shawn Mizro (Newark/Newark, N.Y.), sophomore wide receiver/kick returner Ryan LiDrazzah (Kent School/San Diego, Calif.), and first-year place kicker Denis Avdic (Utica-Proctor/Utica, N.Y.) were named the conference’s Co-Offensive Performer, Co-Special Teams Performer, and Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading Hobart to a 31-28 season-opening victory over Dickinson.

Mizro completed 20 of 34 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. He entered the season tied with Craig Swanson ’04 for the lead in career touchdown passes, taking sole possession of first place early in the third quarter. Mizro also engineered the game-winning drive, completing six of nine passes—including a fourth-and-seven conversion—for 80 yards and a touchdown.

On special teams, LiDrazzah set up two Hobart TDs with long kick returns. He had a 40-yard return in the second quarter that set up a seven-play, 53-yard drive for a touchdown. LiDrazzah added a 43-yard return on the opening kickoff of the second half, launching Hobart on a seven-play, 41-yard touchdown drive. For the day, he had three returns for 89 yards and caught four passes, including the game-winning touchdown, for a total of 51 yards.

Avdic scored seven points in his Hobart debut, converting a 39-yard field goal attempt and going a perfect 4-for-4 on PATs.

The 18th-ranked Statesmen return to action on Sept. 16, when they travel to William Paterson University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will be carried live by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) and on the Internet by clicking on the live coverage link on the Hobart football schedule page.
