GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart junior punter Dominick Ancona (Chaminade/Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Football Co-Special Teams Performer of the Week by the conference office today.
Ancona averaged 41.0 yards per punt, including a career-long 58-yarder, in the Statesmen’s 27-7 victory at St. Lawrence. He was a key figure in the battle for field position, pinning the Saints inside their own 20 on two of his five punts. Also, Hobart’s kicker on kickoffs, Ancona and the Hobart special teams units left St. Lawrence with an average starting field position of their own 20 yard line.
For the season, Ancona leads the Liberty League and ranks 14th in the nation in punting, averaging 39.6 yards per punt. He also shares the conference lead in fumbles recovered with two.
Hobart (6-0, 4-0) will close out its month-long road trip at Alfred on Oct. 28. Kickoff at Merrill Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
