GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College junior punter Dominick Ancona (Chaminade/Garden City, N.Y.) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for his efforts in Hobart’s 21-14 win at Alfred on Oct. 28. He is the fourth Statesman to earn a spot on the national team of the week this season.

Ancona averaged 46.5 yards per punt against the Saxons. His eight punts included a career-long matching 58-yarder. Ancona pinned Alfred inside its own 20 three times, had two more punts fair caught, and two more that were touchbacks.

For the season, Ancona is sixth in the nation and first in the Liberty League, averaging 41.3 yards per punt, well ahead of the Hobart single season record of 38.62 set by Eric Ampuja ’05 in 2002.

Several of Ancona’s teammates are also among the national leaders in the latest NCAA statistics report. Senior linebacker Evan Hoffman (Fairfield Prep/Fairfield, Conn.) leads the nation in forced fumbles (5, 0.71/g). Senior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) is ninth in scoring (10.3 ppg), 13th in all purpose yards (157.1 yds/g), and 19th in rushing (118.3 yds/g). Senior defensive end Andy Purdie (Victor/Farmington, N.Y.) is 37th in sacks (6.5, 0.9/g).

No. 14 Hobart (7-0, 4-0) hosts No. 20 Union (6-1, 4-0) at 1 p.m. on Nov. 4. The winner will carry sole possession of first place in the Liberty League into the final week of play.

The game will be broadcast live by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca). Fans outside the broadcast area can follow along online.
