GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart senior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Football Offensive Performer of the Week today. He rushed for a game-high 119 yards and all three of Hobart’s touchdowns in a 19-14 Liberty League win over WPI.
Blakowski averaged 5.0 yards per carry against the Engineers and scored on runs of 1, 11, and 42 yards, the latter is his longest run of the season. He also caught two passes for 49 yards. Both receptions came on the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. In fact, Blakowski accounted for 51 of Hobart’s 67 yards on that drive.
For the season, Blakowski has rushed for 388 yards (4.3 yds/att) and eight touchdowns. He’s Hobart’s leader in receptions (11) and receiving yards (173). Blakowski is ranked in the top 10 in the Liberty League in several statistical categories, including rushing touchdowns (t-1st), scoring (t-2nd), all purpose yards per game (2nd), rushing yards per game (4th), and yards per reception (5th). His 12.0 scoring average ranks seventh in the nation.
Despite running its record to 4-0 with the win over WPI, Hobart remained 15th in the Don Hansen’s Football Gazette poll, but slipped one spot in the D3football.com poll to No. 19. Following a week off, the Statesmen return to action on Oct. 14, when they travel to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to take on the Mariners. The Liberty League contest is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m.
