GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart seniors Doug Blakowski (Iroquois/Elma, N.Y.) and Evan Hoffman (Fairfield Prep/Fairfield, Conn.) were honored by the Liberty League today for their part in the Statesmen’s 31-21 conference football victory over Rochester. Blakowski was named the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week for the third time this season, while Hoffman earned his second Defensive Performer of the Week award.

Blakowski gained 118 yards on 24 carries, raising his season rushing total to 1,003 yards. He is the first Hobart running back to post consecutive 1,000-yard seasons since Keith Brandon ’01 accomplished the feat in 1998 and 1999. Blakowski scored a pair of touchdowns against Rochester, raising his season total to 13, tied for second in the conference.

For the season, Blakowski is averaging 111.4 rushing yards per game. He is second on the team in receptions with 26 for 311 yards and a touchdown. Blakowski has five 100-yard rushing performances this season, including a career-high 214 yards at Merchant Marine, and 14 100-yard games in his career.

Hoffman posted a career-high 14 tackles, including 10 solo stops, against the Yellowjackets. He registered a team-high 2.5 tackles for a loss, including two of Hobart’s eight sacks on the day. Hoffman also forced a fumble, raising his League-leading total to six. After scoring on their first two possessions, the Yellowjackets found the end zone just once on their final 10 drives.

Second on the team in tackles with 69, Hoffman is also second in tackles for a loss (9.0 for 65 yards) and sacks (6.0 for 54 yards).

Hobart (8-1) earned one of 11 at-large bids to the 2006 NCAA Division III Playoffs. The Statesmen will make their third consecutive, and fifth overall, NCAA appearance on Nov. 18, at noon, at Rowan University. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for students with ID and children.
