Hobart to face Rowan in NCAA Playoffs
November 12, 2006
GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College football team will make its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth in the past seven seasons at noon on Nov. 18. The Statesmen will travel to Glassboro, N.J., to take on the Rowan University Profs.
Hobart finished the regular season with an 8-1 overall record and earned one of 11 at-large bids into the 32-team field. The Statesmen earned a share of the Liberty League regular season title, but had to sweat through the selection process as Union College took the conference’s automatic bid by virtue of the Dutchmen’s win over the Statesmen.
Rowan posted a 7-2 regular season record and captured the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship and its automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. The Profs lost to Montclair State and Division I-AA Robert Morris.
The two teams have one common opponent this season, the NJAC’s William Paterson University. Hobart defeated the Pioneers 31-27 in New Jersey on Sept. 16, while Rowan closed out the regular season with a 38-7 win on its home field over WPU.
Hobart and Rowan have met just once before in football. The Profs posted a 45-14 victory over the Statesmen in the second round of the 2004 NCAA Tournament.
