GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart football players were honored by the ECAC this afternoon. Senior running back Doug Blakowski (Iroquois Central/Elma, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Northwest Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while classmate Evan Hoffman (Fairfield Prep/Fairfield, Conn.) was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.
Blakowski scored two rushing touchdowns to lead the Statesmen past Liberty League rival Rochester, 31-21, last Saturday. He recorded 118 yards in the effort, bringing his season total to 1,003 yards. Blakowski is the first Statesman to run for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons since Keith Brandon ’01 did so in 1998 and 1999.
A linebacker, Hoffman tallied a career-high 14 tackles, including 10 solo, in the win over the Yellowjackets. He recorded a team-high 2.5 tackles for a loss, and was responsible for two of Hobart’s eight sacks on the day. Hoffman also forced a fumble in the game, his league-leading sixth of the year.
After receiving an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, the Statesmen (8-1) will travel to Rowan (7-2) for the first round game on Nov. 18. The game is scheduled to begin at noon. Fans unable to travel to New Jersey for the game can listen live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca), or online at www.weos.org.
