Mizro, Martin complete Hobart's Offensive Play of the Year

January 25, 2007

The voters have spoken. With nearly 1,000 votes cast over the past three weeks, Hobart fans picked quarterback Shawn Mizro's scrambling TD pass to tight end Kyle Martin late in the fourth quarter of the Statesmen's NCAA Playoff showdown with Rowan as the Offensive Play of the Year. The play received 420 votes (43.5 percent).

Trailing 17-10, linebacker Jeff Sanders forced a fumble by Rowan running back Davon Edwards at the Profs' 9-yard line that was recovered by linebacker Tyler Mason. Three plays later, Mizro connected with Martin from 4 yards out for the score. The Statesmen went for the two point conversion and Mizro completed a pass to tight end Matt Duliba, giving Hobart an 18-17 lead with 1:52 remaining.

Unfortunately, Rowan drove down the field and kicked what proved to be the game-winning field goal with just nine seconds remaining.

Running back Doug Blakowski's 42-yard touchdown run against WPI finished second in the poll with 359 votes (37.2 percent). None of the other plays received more than eight percent of the vote.

Mizro threw for 1,690 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Martin caught 10 passes for 127 yards and two TDs. A three-year starter, Mizro will graduate with a long list of career records, including pass attempts (826), completions (455), passing yards (6,097), and passing touchdowns (61).

Voting for Hobart's Defensive Play of the Year will begin next week.
