December 17, 2002

GENEVA, N.Y.—Three Hobart College football players were named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Northwest Football All-Star first-team, while a fourth earned honorable mention. Senior offensive lineman Adam Tumilowicz (Unadilla Valley/Norwich, N.Y.), senior linebacker Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.), and sophomore running back Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) garnered first-team recognition, while junior quarterback Craig Swanson (Jamestown/Jamestown, N.Y.) received honorable mention.

The Statesmen opened the season with a seven-game win streak, the program’s best start in 48 years, and finished the regular season with an 8-1 record. Hobart posted a perfect 4-0 record in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association, the Statesmen’s first unbeaten season in the league. Hobart earned its second NCAA Tournament invitation in three seasons, falling in the first round to 11th-ranked and eventual semifinalist John Carroll University.

An honorable mention ECAC Northwest All-Star last season, Tumilowicz helped the Statesmen average 132.0 yards rushing and a school record 221.9 yards passing per game this year. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound guard is a three-time first-team All-UCAA selection.

Booth led the team in tackles for a loss (9.5), forced fumbles (3), and blocked kicks (2). He finished second on the team with a career-high 58 tackles, including a team best 41 solo stops. Booth compiled 163 career tackles, including 42.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, and 11 interceptions. He has appeared on the ECAC Northwest All-Star teams in each of the past three seasons, garnering honorable mention in 2000 and first-team accolades in 2001. The 2002 UCAA Defensive Player of the Year, Booth is a three-time first-team All-UCAA honoree.

The 2001 ECAC Rookie of the Year, Godinho avoided the so-called sophomore jinx, rushing for 958 yards and 12 touchdowns and catching 24 passes for 200 yards and two more TDs. The CAA’s leading rusher ranked 33rd in the nation in scoring (8.6 ppg). Godinho posted six 100-yard rushing games this season, including a career-high 154 yards and four touchdowns against RPI on Nov. 16. Over the past two seasons, he is averaging 4.4 yards per carry and 94.8 yards per game.

Swanson enjoyed the most prolific season by a Hobart quarterback in the program’s 109-season history. A finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, presented to Division III’s most outstanding player, he completed 170 of 290 passes for 2,209 yards and 21 touchdowns. Swanson is the first Statesman to throw for more than 2,000 yards in a season. In 10 games, he broke 14 Hobart game, season, and career records, including all three marks for touchdowns (4, 21, 32).
