September 13, 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.Two Hobart College football players were recognized by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association after the Statesmen's season opening 6-2 victory over Dickinson College. First-year kicker Eric Ampuja (Brockton/Brockton, Mass.) and junior linebacker Everton McLean (Bishop Maginn/Albany, N.Y.) were named to the UCAA Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 9. Against the Red Devils, Ampuja accounted for all of Hobart's points with two field goals. The kicker connected on his first collegiate attempt in the first quarter, from 37 yards out. Ampuja struck again with 5:16 left in the game, splitting the uprights from 44 yards away. McLean led the Statesmen with 10 tackles, including four for a loss of 27 yards. The linebacker also recorded one and a half sacks and recovered a Dickinson fumble. Hobart (1-0), currently No. 4 in the Upstate New York Division III weekly poll, is off this weekend. The Statesmen return to action on Sept. 22, for their home opener against Union College at 1 p.m. |
