October 25, 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.--The Eastern College Athletic Conference has recognized two Hobart College Football players for their play in the Statesmen's 24-21 win over Alfred University on Oct. 20. Junior linebacker Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.) and first-year offensive lineman Alex Bell (Wallkill/Modena, N.Y.) were named to the ECAC Northwest Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 21. Booth made a team-high 10 tackles against the Saxons, including nine solo and a sack to earn his second straight Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Defensive Player of the Week award. The junior leads Hobart in tackles with 35, including 26 solo, and tackles for a loss with 11 for a loss of 52 yards. Booth also leads the team in sacks with four. Bell led an offensive line that allowed only one sack and paved the way for the Statesmen's 194 rushing yards and 154 yards passing against Alfred. He also scored a touchdown on his first career carry from 1-yard out. Bell's performance earned him the UCAA's Rookie of the Week award. He is the first Hobart offensive lineman to earn one of the UCAA's weekly awards. The Statesmen (5-1, 2-1 UCAA) travel to Ithaca College on Oct. 27, to face the Bombers at 1 p.m. Last season in Geneva, Hobart shutout Ithaca 19-0. |
