Booth named preseason All-American, twice

August 8. 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.–Hobart College junior linebacker Tim Booth was recently named to a pair of preseason All-America football teams. The Waterloo native was named a first-team All-American by both D3Football.com and Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette.

Booth gave opposing offensive coordinators nightmares last season, turning in 48 tackles–including 15 for a loss and three sacks–and intercepted a team-leading six passes, while breaking up 13 others. He led the UCAA and ranked 16th in the nation in passes defensed (break ups plus interceptions). Booth also recovered three fumbles, forced another, and blocked a kick. He received several accolades for his efforts last season, including D3Football.com honorable mention All-America, All-ECAC Northwest honorable mention, and first-team All-UCAA. In the postseason, Booth had six tackles, including 2.5 sacks.

The Statesmen return 20 letterwinners, including 13 starters, from the 2000 team that rewrote the Hobart records book. A year ago, the Statesmen finished the regular season with an 8-1 record, including a 3-1 mark in the UCAA, securing the league championship. The program received its first NCAA Playoff bid, blanking Bridgewater State 25-0 in the first round. Hobart matched or broke 14 individual or team records and broke the NCAA record for lowest pass completion percentage allowed in a season.

The Statesmen open the 2001 season at Dickinson on Sept. 8. Hobart will host league-rival Union on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. in its home opener.
