November 3, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College linebacker Tony Clemente (Troy/Troy, N.Y.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon. The sophomore produced an outstanding individual effort as the Statesmen fell at 18th-ranked Ithaca College on Nov. 1, 14-7. Clemente posted a career-high 16 tackles, including eight solo. He also forced a fumble, as the Statesmen defense limited the Bombers to just 14 points, 18.3 points below their season average. Clementes 16 stops are the most by a Hobart player since Sept. 28, 2002, when senior linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.) also registered 16 tackles in a 14-6 win at Union. Clementes performance vaulted him to the front of the class, giving him a team best 50 tackles (27 solo). He also boasts a team-high three forced fumbles and an interception. The Statesmen (4-3) play their final home game of the regular season on Nov. 8, when St. John Fisher College visits Boswell Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Hobart Student-Athlete Advisory Council will sponsor a food drive at the St. John Fisher game. Fans bringing two or more nonperishable food items will receive two free admissions. Soup, stew, canned vegetables, and canned fruit are in great need by area food pantries. Hobart and William Smith students, who receive free admission to all games, will be given a Statesmen hat in exchange for two or more nonperishable food items. |
