November 5, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart sophomore linebacker Tony Clemente (Troy/Troy, N.Y.) was named to the D3Football.com National Team of the Week for the week ending Nov. 1. The accolades come on the heels of the UCAA Defensive Player of the Week Award and a spot on the ECAC Northwest Weekly Honor Roll. In a 14-7 loss at 18th-ranked Ithaca on Saturday, Clemente posted a career-high 16 tackles, including eight solo. He also forced a fumble, as the Statesmen defense limited the Bombers to just 14 points, 18.3 points below their season average. Clementes 16 stops are the most by a Hobart player since Sept. 28, 2002, when senior linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.) also registered 16 tackles in a 14-6 win at Union. Clemente leads the team with 50 tackles (27 solo). He also boasts a team-high three forced fumbles and an interception. Clemente ranks 13th in the nation in forced fumbles (0.43/g). Clemente is the second Statesman to earn a spot on the D3Football.com Team of the Week. Junior Dan Suozzi (New Hampton/New Canaan, Conn.) earned a spot on the Oct. 18, team. The Statesmen (4-3) play their final home game of the regular season on Nov. 8, when St. John Fisher College visits Boswell Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The Hobart Student-Athlete Advisory Council will sponsor a food drive at the St. John Fisher game. Fans bringing two or more nonperishable food items will receive two free admissions. Soup, stew, canned vegetables, and canned fruit are in great need by area food pantries. Hobart and William Smith students, who receive free admission to all games, will be given a Statesmen hat in exchange for two or more nonperishable food items. |
