December 18, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College senior offensive lineman Adam Tumilowicz (Unadilla Valley/Norwich, N.Y.) was named first-team All-Region by Don Hansens Football Gazette, while four of his teammates earned third-team honors. As a first-team selection, Tumilowicz advances to the national All-America ballot. Senior linebacker Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.), junior linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.), sophomore offensive lineman Alex Bell (Wallkill/Modena, N.Y.), and sophomore punter Dan Suozzi (New Hampton/New Canaan, Conn.) earned third-team accolades. A three-year starter at guard, Tumilowicz was a leader on Hobarts offensive line that helped the Statesmen average 132.0 yards rushing per game and a school record 221.9 yards passing per game. At 6-foot-4, 300 pounds, he is a punishing blocker with surprising quickness and excellent mobility. Tumilowicz was named first-team All-UCAA in each of the past three seasons, while garnering first-team All-ECAC Northwest this season. Another three-time All-UCAA first-team selection, Booth was the leader of Hobarts swarming defense that allowed just two rushing touchdowns all season and finished the season with 27 takeaways. The 2002 UCAA Defensive Player of the Year, he led the team in tackles for a loss (9.5), forced fumbles (3), and blocked kicks (2). Booth finished second on the team with a career-high 58 tackles, including a team best 41 solo stops. For his career, he compiled 163 tackles, including 42.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, and 11 interceptions. Booth has appeared on the ECAC Northwest All-Star teams in each of the past three seasons, garnering honorable mention in 2000 and first-team accolades in 2001 and 2002. Szentesy led Hobart and finished third in the UCAA in tackles with 76, the most by a Statesman since 1997. A 2002 first-team All-UCAA honoree, he recorded a career-high 16 tackles at Union on Sept. 28, the most by a Statesman since 1997. Szentesy also led the Statesmen in sacks with 4.5 and in fumble recoveries with six. Bell was also an important member of Hobarts offensive line. The 6-foot-3, 330-pounder was a second team All-UCAA selection in each of the past two seasons. A jack-of-all-trades, Suozzi was named first-team All-UCAA at punter, wide receiver, and return specialist. He was named to the Football Gazette team as a punter after averaging a league leading 35.4 yards per punt. Suozzi dropped 17 of his 42 punts inside the opponents 20-yard line, nine more than the team managed last season. The Statesmen opened the season with a seven-game win streak, the programs best start in 48 years, and finished the regular season with an 8-1 record. Hobart posted a perfect 4-0 record in the UCAA, the Statesmens first unbeaten season in the league. Hobart earned its second NCAA Tournament invitation in three seasons, falling in the first round to 11th-ranked and eventual semifinalist John Carroll University. |
