Godinho, Ampuja earn weekly football honors

Ty Godinho '05

Eric Ampuja '05

November 17, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart junior running back Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) was named the UCAA Offensive Performer of the Week and the RACA Tri-Male Athlete of the Week this afternoon, while classmate Eric Ampuja (Brockton/Brockton, Mass.) was named the UCAA Special Teams Performer of the Week.

The pair led the Statesmen to an impressive 43-25 upset of previously unbeaten and then 20th-ranked Rensselaer. The win spoiled the Engineers’ hopes for an undefeated season and secured a second straight UCAA Championship for Hobart.

Against an RPI defense that was allowing just 118.4 rushing yards per game, Godinho ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and was not stopped behind the line of scrimmage on any of his 23 carries. His two TDs also vaulted him into the lead in the UCAA for touchdowns (11). Godinho also caught a two-point conversion pass. The game marked his fourth 100-yard performance in the past five games and the 15th 100-yard game of his career.

Ampuja was a perfect 5-for-5 on PATs in the victory. After just three seasons, Ampuja boasts 77 career PATs made, 32 more than any other Statesman in the 110-year history of the program.
The victory also propelled the Statesmen into an ECAC postseason bid. Hobart will host Norwich University at noon, on Nov. 22, in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl. For those unable to travel to Geneva, realtime stats will be available online at: campus.hws.edu/athletics/hobart/football/live/xlive.htm.
