Jimmy Gradis '06

October 13, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College football players were honored by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association this afternoon. Sophomore defensive back Jimmy Gradis (Elwood John Glenn/Greenlawn, N.Y.) was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while first-year linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.) garnered the UCAA’s Rookie of the Week Award.

The Statesmen suffered a disappointing 17-13 loss to the University of Rochester, but the Hobart defense didn’t make things easy for the Yellowjackets, forcing eight turnovers.

Gradis led the charge on Saturday with nine tackles (6 solo) and three of the team’s eight takeaways. He made two interceptions and forced and recovered a fumble, and also recorded a quarterback hurry. Gradis ranks second in the league in interceptions (0.67/gm).

Robinson registered seven tackles (3 solo) against Rochester, including 1.5 tackles for a loss. He also posted two quarterback hurries. Robinson is second on the team and 10th in the conference in tackles (13-14-27).

Hobart is 2-2 overall, 2-1 in the UCAA. The Statesmen return to action at 1 p.m., on Oct. 18, against Franklin & Marshall College. The game will be carried live on WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3) and on the Internet at: campus.hws.edu/athletics/hobart/football/live/xlive.htm.
