GENEVA, N.Y.—One day after learning he had been chosen the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Football Player of the Week, Hobart College senior defensive tackle Brad Griffith (Massena/Syracuse, N.Y.) received the same honor from the Eastern College Athletic Conference. The Statesmen, led by a smothering defense, posted their third straight season opening win over Dickinson by a score of 27-3.

A 2001 second-team All-UCAA selection, Griffith recorded a game-high 10 tackles on Saturday, including two for a loss. He also forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles. As a team, the Statesmen limited Dickinson to just 110 yards rushing. The previous week the Red Devils rushed for 296 yards against Juniata.

The Statesmen return to action on Sept. 28, when they open their UCAA schedule at Union. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
