September 16, 2002 GENEVA, N.Y.Hobart College senior defensive tackle Brad Griffith (Massena/Syracuse, N.Y.) was named the UCAA Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Dickinson College on Sept. 14. The Statesmen posted their third straight season opening win by a score of 27-3 over the Red Devils. A 2001 second-team All-UCAA selection, Griffith recorded a game-high 10 tackles on Saturday, including two for a loss. He also forced a fumble and recovered two fumbles. As a team, the Statesmen limited Dickinson to just three points and 110 yards rushing. The previous week the Red Devils rushed for 296 yards against Juniata. Three other Statesmen earned a spot on the UCAA Weekly Honor Roll: sophomore running backs Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) and Jack Holleran (Choate Rosemary Hall/Sharon, Mass.) and first-year linebacker Tony Clemente (Troy/Troy, N.Y.). Godinho rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries (4.5 yds/att), while Holleran outrushed Dickinson by himself, gaining 114 yards on just 10 carries (11.4 yds/att), including a 59-yard touchdown run. Clemente registered five tackles and two forced fumbles in his first collegiate game. The Statesmen return to action on Sept. 28, when they open their UCAA schedule at Union. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. |
