August 26, 2002 Geneva, N.Y. The Hobart College football team is ranked sixth in the Upstate New York Division III preseason poll. The Statesmen finished last season ranked fifth after a 6-3 record and a third place finish in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. Hobart has its sights set high for the 2002 season with 23 starters returning, including UCAA Rookie of the Year Ty Godinho, (Lancaster, N.Y.; Lancaster) at running back. Hobart opens the 2002 campaign on Sept. 14, hosting Dickinson at 1 p.m. The Statesmen posted a 6-2 victory at Dickinson in last seasons opener. Brockport tops the poll with seven first place votes tops the poll with Ithaca (5), Rensselaer (1), Union (1), and Cortland rounding out the top five positions. Upstate New York Division III Football is an association of 14 colleges and universities in the Upstate region that sponsor DIII football.
