Hobart’s offensive line honored by D3Football.com

HOBART'S OFFENSIVE LINE

November 19, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College football team’s offensive line was honored recently by D3Football.com. The Statesmen’s front men were named to the D3Football.com Team of the Week after leading Hobart to a 43-25 upset of previously unbeaten and then 20th-ranked (coaches poll) Rensselaer on Nov. 15.

Senior Matt Kehoe (Hilton/Hamlin, N.Y.), juniors Alex Bell (Wallkill/Modena, N.Y.), Jeff Bruckman (Churchville Chili/Churchville, N.Y.), Ryan Hallings (Penn Yan/Penn Yan, N.Y.), Matt Montroy (Palmyra-Macedon/Palmyra, N.Y.), and Josh Van Auken (Greece Olympia/Rochester, N.Y.), and first-year Nino Giambrone Jr. (Pioneer/Delevan, N.Y.) paved the way for a highly successful running game against the Engineers.

Hobart (5-4) gained a season-high 248 yards on the ground against an RPI defense that came into the game allowing an average of just 118.4 yards rushing. The Engineers were averaging just one rushing touchdown allowed per game, until the Statesmen posted four on Saturday. Hobart’s linemen were getting such a good push on running plays that none of Hobart’s 50 carries by running backs were stopped behind the line of scrimmage.

The line also gave the passing game time to complete 8-of-13 for 183 yards and two more touchdowns. Hobart’s 431 yards of total offense is the second highest total the team has produced this season. The win gave the Statesmen the UCAA Championship for the second straight season.

The victory also propelled Hobart into an ECAC postseason bid. The Statesmen will host Norwich University at noon, on Nov. 22, in the ECAC North Atlantic Bowl. For those unable to travel to Geneva, real-time stats will be available online at: campus.hws.edu/athletics/hobart/football/live/xlive.htm.

Tickets will go on sale at Boswell Field an hour and a half prior to kickoff. Admission will be $3 for adults, $1 for children under 12. Admission for Hobart and William Smith students, faculty, and staff is free with proper ID.

Parking at Boswell Field will be restricted to permit holders only. Additional game day parking is available in the O’Dells South and Barn lots on St. Clair St., and in the Medbury lot on Pulteney St.

Statesmen Athletic Association members are invited to visit Hobart’s traditional Game Day Tent. Due to the unpredictability of November weather, the Statesmen Tent will be held on the second floor of the Bristol Field House.
