November 14, 2001 GENEVA, N.Y.--The Eastern College Athletic Conference recognized two Hobart College Football players for their play in the Statesmen's 35-29 season-ending loss at Rensselaer on Nov. 10. Wide receivers Joe Pirozzolo (Elmira Free Academy/Elmira, N.Y.) and Dan Suozzi (New Hampton/New Canaan, Conn.) were named to the ECAC Northwest Honor Roll for the week ending Nov. 12. Pirozzolo caught five passes for a team-high 156 yards and two touchdowns against Rensselaer. The sophomore scored on a 78-yard bomb in the first quarter and added a 9-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Pirozzolo led Hobart in receiving this year, catching 27 passes for 487 yards and five touchdowns. He was third on the team in scoring with 30 points and third in all-purpose yards with 487. Suozzi caught a team-high six passes for 134 yards against the Red Hawks. The first-year also returned three punts for 86 yards, including a 72-yarder for a touchdown. He also returned three kickoffs for 43 yards. Suozzi led the Statesmen and the UCAA in punt returns this season with 15 for 246 yards for an average of 16.4 yards per return. He was third on the team in receiving with 17 catches for 240 yards. Suozzi led the team in kickoff returns with 11 for 197 yards and was second in all-purpose yards with 664. The two Statesmen were also named Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Rookies of the Week. Hobart concluded the 2001 season with a 6-3 record, including a 2-2 mark against league opponents. |
