GENEVA, N.Y.—For the third time in as many weeks the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association has recognized the outstanding efforts of Hobart College first-year Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.). The league’s football rookie of the week in each of the past two weeks, he stepped up the UCAA Defensive Player of the Week award this afternoon following the Statesmen’s 20-12 victory at Alfred University on Oct. 25.

Robinson led Hobart’s swarming defense against the Saxons with seven tackles (6 solo), including a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass break up. The Robinson-led Statesmen limited Alfred to just 188 yards of total offense, including holding senior running back Jesse Raynor, the No. 27 rusher in the nation (119.6 yds/g), to just 72 yards on the ground and no touchdowns—he had nine entering the game.

The outside linebacker currently leads the team in tackles with 39 stops (22 solo). If he finishes the season as Hobart’s leading tackler, he would be the first rookie to pace the Statesmen in that category since 1997 (Omar Pickering ’01, 76 tkls). Robinson also boasts 5½ tackles for a loss, including 2½ sacks, and four pass break ups.

The Statesmen return to action at 1 p.m., on Nov. 1, at Ithaca College. The Bombers (6-1) are ranked 18th in the latest D3Football.com poll. The game will be broadcast live in the Geneva area by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3). Those outside the Geneva area can listen online at www.weos.org.
