October 27, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.For the third time in as many weeks the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association has recognized the outstanding efforts of Hobart College first-year Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.). The leagues football rookie of the week in each of the past two weeks, he stepped up the UCAA Defensive Player of the Week award this afternoon following the Statesmens 20-12 victory at Alfred University on Oct. 25. Robinson led Hobarts swarming defense against the Saxons with seven tackles (6 solo), including a pair of sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass break up. The Robinson-led Statesmen limited Alfred to just 188 yards of total offense, including holding senior running back Jesse Raynor, the No. 27 rusher in the nation (119.6 yds/g), to just 72 yards on the ground and no touchdownshe had nine entering the game. The outside linebacker currently leads the team in tackles with 39 stops (22 solo). If he finishes the season as Hobarts leading tackler, he would be the first rookie to pace the Statesmen in that category since 1997 (Omar Pickering 01, 76 tkls). Robinson also boasts 5½ tackles for a loss, including 2½ sacks, and four pass break ups. The Statesmen return to action at 1 p.m., on Nov. 1, at Ithaca College. The Bombers (6-1) are ranked 18th in the latest D3Football.com poll. The game will be broadcast live in the Geneva area by WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3).
