Suozzi, Robinson capture UCAA Awards

Nolan Robinson '07

Dan Suozzi '05

October 20, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two Hobart College football players received weekly awards from the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association this afternoon. Junior wide receiver Dan Suozzi (New Hampton/New Canaan, Conn.) was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week, while first-year linebacker Nolan Robinson (Johnson City/Johnson City, N.Y.) garnered the Rookie of the Week award.

Suozzi broke the Hobart single game record for receptions and receiving yards, while matching the mark for receiving touchdowns in a 28-20 win over Franklin & Marshall. He caught 12 passes for 239 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Statesmen past the Diplomats. Three of his receptions accounted for 171 yards, covering 44 (TD), 50 (TD), and 77 yards.

Suozzi eclipsed the Hobart marks previously held by Nico Karagosian ’97 (11 receptions vs. Rensselaer, Nov. 12, 1994), and 2002 Hobart Hall of Fame inductee Scott Geise ’83 (201 receiving yards vs. Hamilton, Oct. 23, 1982), while matching the TD mark shared by Steve Skillman ’85 (at Rochester, Oct. 8, 1983) and Nate Waye ’95 (vs. Assumption, Oct. 19, 1991).

Hobart’s Renaissance man ranks among the best in the UCAA in all-purpose yards (1st, 163.4 yds/g), receiving yards (2nd, 108.8 yds/g), kick return (2nd, 22.9 yds/ret), punting (2nd, 36.2 yds/p), scoring (2nd, 7.2 ppg), and receptions (3rd, 5.6/g).

Robinson, who was named the UCAA Rookie of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season, registered five tackles, including half a sack, a pass breakup, a quarterback hurry, and blocked a punt as the Hobart defense shutout Franklin & Marshall for three quarters. He leads UCAA rookies in tackles (32) and tackles per game (6.4).

Hobart is 3-2 overall and travels to Alfred University (4-3) for its next game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Oct. 25, at Merrill Field.
