GENEVA, N.Y.—Hobart College wide receiver Dan Suozzi (New Hampton/New Caanan, Conn.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Suozzi scored the game winning touchdown in Hobart’s 14-6 win over previously unbeaten Union College on Sept. 28.

The sophomore caught a career-high seven passes against the Dutchmen for 101 yards. His game-winning touchdown reception was a 38-yard strike that included 30 yards after the catch. A jack-of-all-trades, Suozzi also averaged 33.8 yards per punt, pinning the Dutchmen inside their own 20-yard line four times, and returned a punt nine yards. He totaled 110 all-purpose yards on Saturday.

Suozzi ranks first in the UCAA in punt return average (16.6), and punting average (36.6), second in all purpose yards per game (126.0), and fourth in receptions per game (4.5).

Two other Statesmen were named to the UCAA Weekly Honor Roll, junior linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.) and senior defensive end Chris Hanly (Swampscott/Swampscott, Mass.). Szentesy recorded a game and career-high 16 tackles and two passes defended. He had 1.5 tackles for a loss, including a half sack. Hanly totaled 11 stops, including a half sack, while recovering a fumble inside the Union 10-yard line that led to Hobart’s second touchdown and intercepting Union’s final pass attempt to seal the victory.

Hobart returns to action on Oct. 5, when the St. Lawrence Saints visit Boswell Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. At halftime, the Statesmen will honor the Hobart Hall of Fame classes of 2001 and 2002. For those who can’t make it to the game, i2sports.com will “cybercast” the game live on the Internet.
