GENEVA, N.Y.—The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association honored junior linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.) and first-year defensive back Jimmy Gradis (Elwood John Glenn/Greenlawn, N.Y.) for the second straight week, as the duo helped the Hobart College football team to a 17-6 victory over 21st ranked Ithaca College. Szentesy was named the league’s Co-Defensive Player of the Week, while Gradis earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Szentesy shared the team lead in tackles with eight. He also recovered a Bomber fumble on the Ithaca 14 that led to Hobart's winning touchdown. Gradis also posted eight tackles. Hobart’s defense, which didn’t allow a point after Ithaca’s first possession, was exceptionally dominant in the second half, allowing the Bombers just 27 yards and one first down.

Sophomore running back Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) and sophomore wide receiver Rick Pinero (Smithtown/Hauppauge, N.Y.) were named to the UCAA’s Weekly Honor Roll. Godinho rushed for a season-high 134 yards and a touchdown, while Pinero caught a season-high six passes for 112 yards.

The Statesmen, who improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1954, held onto the top spot in the Upstate New York Division III Football Poll. Hobart received 12 of a possible 14 first place votes. Brockport, Cortland, Rensselaer, and Hartwick rounded out the top-5. Hobart returns to action on Nov. 9, at St. John Fisher College. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
