Three Statesmen earn UCAA honors

October 8. 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--Three Hobart College football players were recognized by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association after the Statesmen's 38-12 victory over the University of Rochester. First-year running back Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) was named the league's Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. Junior defensive end Chris Hanley (Swampscott/Swampscott, Mass.) and sophomore linebacker David Szentesy (Lackawanna/Lackawanna, N.Y.) were named to the UCAA Honor Roll.

Godinho ran the ball 19 times for 101 yards and a touchdown against the Yellowjackets. The running back leads the Statesmen in rushing and is second in the UCAA with 385 yards on 68 carries. Godinho is also second in the league in all-purpose yards with 499 and third in yards per kickoff return with 21.6.

Hanley made a game-high eight tackles on Saturday, including six solo, and broke up one pass. The defensive end has played in just two games this season, missing time to injury.

Szentesy intercepted two passes and made four tackles against Rochester. The linebacker leads Hobart in tackles with 23, including 13 solo, and interceptions with three. He has also broken up a pass and recorded a half a sack. Szentesy is making his second straight appearance on the Honor Roll.

The Statesmen (3-1, 2-1 UCAA) host Franklin and Marshall College on Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. Last season, Hobart handled the Diplomats, 28-10 in Lancaster, Pa.
