Three Statesmen earn UCAA honors

October 23, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--Three Hobart College football players were recognized by the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association after the Statesmen's 24-21 victory over Alfred University. Junior linebacker Tim Booth (Waterloo/Waterloo, N.Y.) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week, while first-year offensive lineman Alex Bell (Wallkill/Modena, N.Y.) captured his first Rookie of the Week award. First-year running back Ty Godinho (Lancaster/Lancaster, N.Y.) earned a spot on the honor roll.

Booth made a team-high 10 tackles against the Saxons, including nine solo and a sack. The junior leads Hobart in tackles with 35, including 26 solo, and tackles for a loss with 11 for a loss of 52 yards. Booth also leads the team in sacks with four.

Bell led an offensive line that allowed only one sack and paved the way for the Statesmen's 194 rushing yards and 154 yards passing against Alfred. He also scored a touchdown on his first career carry from 1-yard out. Bell is the first Hobart offensive lineman to earn one of the UCAA's weekly awards.

Godinho recorded his fourth straight 100-yard rushing performance. The first-year ran the ball 27 times for 115 yards and a touchdown. He leads Hobart in rushing and is second in the UCAA with 603 yards on 120 carries. Godinho has also caught seven passes for 55 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Hobart (5-1, 2-1 UCAA) travel to Ithaca College on Oct. 27, to face the Bombers at 1 p.m. Last season in Geneva, Hobart shutout Ithaca 19-0.
