GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart College golf team, led by Head Coach Bill Quinn, will feature a trio of returning lettermen and a quintet of talented first-years. The Statesmen, who registered five top-five team finishes in 2004, will be led by senior shotmaker Drew Slocum (University School/Milwaukee, Wis.), who has topped the leader board three times during his collegiate career.

Slocum won the Elmira Country Club tournament by carding a 1-under on the 72-par course. A member of the 2004 All-Liberty League, second team, he recorded a ninth place finish at the Liberty League Championships on Sept. 27. At the Hobart Invitational, Slocum carded a 79 to earn a third place finish. Two weeks later, he posted a fifth place performance at the Violet Classic.

Junior Mike Gonzalez (Harley-Allen-Columbia/Webster, N.Y.) showed steady progress throughout the season. He used his knowledge of the Clifton Springs Country Club to shot a 78 at the Hobart Invitational, which earned him his first collegiate victory. On Sept. 19, he posted a career-best 77 at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational. Gonzalez turned in a top-five performance at the Oswego State Fall Invitational, carding a 78 on the par-71 course.

Senior Mark Hobin (Ridge/Basking Ridge, N.J.) enjoyed his season-best performance at the Pitt-Bradford Invitational, which earned him a score of 79 and third place. Hobart left the course with a second place team finish. Hobin will be counted on to mentor the five incoming first-years.

Sophomore Jon Ritter (North Dartmouth, Mass.) along with first-years James Gibney (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.), (George Gorton (Johnston City/Endwell, N, Y.), Brian Kilduff (Morristown-Beard School/ Summit, N,J.), Lucas Mindlin (Shady Side Academy/ Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Peter Mohlin (Thornton Academy/ Saco, Maine) should provide depth in the Statesmen lineup.
